Our designers and artisans have created a wide range of engagement rings that feature this beautiful diamond shape.

In this article, we will discuss this diamond shape and what makes pear shaped diamonds so attractive. By the end of this piece, you will have a clear idea about these diamonds and how to choose the right one for the engagement ring that will mark the start of a new phase in your life together!

When it comes to diamond engagement rings, there are several shape options available: the round, the marquise, the heart, the cushion cut and the pear shape being some of the most popular. These are all beautiful choices that will suit any couple’s personal tastes. They can be worn on either hand according to your custom and taste.

The pear shaped diamond engagement ring is becoming very popular among men and women. When you choose a pear shaped diamond, you can be sure that it will attract attention and stand out from the crowd for decades to come, even as the style becomes ever more popular.

What Is A Pear Shape Diamond?

A pear shaped diamond looks like a small round ball that's been sliced in half by two lines. The result is an asymmetrical gemstone that resembles the popular fruit. Pear shape diamonds have several advantages. For example, their brilliance is greater than that of any other type of diamond other than the brilliant round cut. This means that they sparkle more brightly under light than almost every other diamond shape.

Although the round brilliant diamond is slightly more brilliant, the difference is very small given that the faceting of a pear shaped diamond is very similar to a round diamond. And, of course, the pear shape will tend to look more prominent than a round diamond due to its elongated shape.

Pear shaped diamonds are usually visually larger in size than round diamonds, but they are also less expensive than other shapes. Currently, a pear shape diamond is around 30% less costly than a round diamond of the same carat weight and equivalent quality grade. This is because a round cut diamond creates a large amount of waste. Pear shape diamonds are a significantly more efficient use of the rough diamond. Because of this, they're an excellent choice for anyone who wants to buy a large stone without exceeding their budget.

Why Do People Wear Pear Diamonds?

There are many reasons why people wear pear-shaped gems. One of the most common is that they look good with a variety of outfits. When you choose to wear a pear shaped diamond, it will make your outfit appear elegant. You can also use them to accentuate necklines, earrings, bracelets, and even watches.

The shape of a pear shape diamond on an engagement ring is very flattering. It brings a feminine, soft quality to the hand and tends to emphasise the length of the fingers.

Many women love the fact that the pear shape looks larger than a traditional round cut diamond. The technical reason for this is that the pear shape is about 8% larger than a round diamond on its top surface. After all, who doesn’t prefer a larger diamond to a smaller one?

Pear Diamond Colour

Diamond colour grading refers to the hue of light reflected by a stone. Looking at a coloured gemstone, you can tell how intense the colouration is just from looking at the stone. For example, white sapphires are very clear stones reflecting little light. On the other hand, red rubies are more colourful than their blue counterparts.

In general, most people prefer bright uncoloured diamonds. A pear shaped diamond tends to retain and make any yellow or brown hue visible in the pointed end of the gemstone. For this reason, you should avoid lower colour-grade diamonds. Most of our diamonds are of G or better colour grade, giving a visibly ‘white’ or colourless gemstone.

If you prefer a slightly warm tone to the ring, choose a yellow or rose gold band and setting. These metals will imbue the gemstone with a degree of warmth from the coloured gold. If you wish to have the whitest, least coloured diamond, go for platinum or white gold, as these metals will add no colouration to the diamond.

What Clarity Is Best for Pear Shape Diamonds?

Because of the relatively large table offered in a pear shape diamond, it is easier to see inside the diamond from above, and so any imperfections that might be hidden in a round diamond can be more easily seen. This effect is more noticeable the bigger the diamond is.

If you buy a diamond that is graded as SI or better, then imperfections should not be noticeable except under high (10X) magnification and good lighting. In normal conditions, inclusions and other minor imperfections will be unnoticeable.

At All Diamond, we usually work with diamonds of SI or better for all diamond shapes making this a non-issue. In addition, the SI clarity grade is something of a sweet spot in terms of value and quality. Paying more for a higher clarity diamond is unlikely to give a visibly better diamond, but paying less for a lower-grade diamond will often disappoint the buyer and wearer.

Pear Shape Diamond Ratio

There is no fixed ratio of proportions for pear shaped diamonds. In essence, you should buy the ring with a pear-shaped diamond that you like the appearance of. However, the length-to-width ratio that most people find pleasing will lie between 1.45:1 to 1.75:1.

A related matter is that of symmetry. An imaginary line drawn from the diamond’s tip to the curved end should be symmetrical. If the diamond does not look ‘right’, there is no need to measure it. Just choose a different example!

N.B: A diamond grading report will have a grade for symmetry. This is not about the symmetry of the overall shape but is an assessment of how well the diamond cutter has aligned the facets. When checking a grading report, look for a grade of ‘good’ or better.

There is no one right way of choosing a pear shaped diamond. You just need to make sure that you pick the ideal size, colour, and clarity for your personal taste and budget.

Here are some tips for finding the best pear shaped diamond

1. Start by looking at the overall look of the stone. The first thing you should do is to determine whether it will be large enough. A big stone can overwhelm a smaller setting. On the other hand, a too small stone might disappear within its setting. If a diamond halo accentuates the central diamond's visual effect, make sure that the halo does not overpower the pear-shaped central gemstone.

2. Next, you’ll need to check the cut. This refers to the angle at which the facets are formed on the stone's surface. You’ll also want to pay attention to how well they fit together. If the diamond does not look ‘right’ in its setting, if the facets are not well aligned with each other, then the diamond will not sparkle as well as it could if it were better cut.

3. Finally, you’ll need to consider the weight of the stone. Are you happy with the size of the stone, in carats, compared to the overall price of the ring? Remember that the precious metal of the band is only a relatively small part of the overall cost of the ring. Also, while very attractive, halo diamonds are significantly less costly per carat than the large central stone.

Pros And Cons Of A Pear Shaped Diamond Engagement Ring

As with all diamond shapes, the pear shape has its advantages and disadvantages. A pear shaped diamond is not the best choice for everyone. Given that an engagement ring will probably be worn for many years, perhaps a lifetime of almost daily wear, choosing the right diamond shape is very important.

Here are some of our thoughts about the pros and cons of a pear shape diamond in an engagement ring. Of course, the same considerations are valid for other types of rings or jewellery types.

Pros of a pear shape diamond:

1. The whiteness and sparkle of a pear shape diamond are very vivid and intense. Paired with their large visual appearance, this shape will always get noticed!

2. The pear shape will always look unique, even though they are becoming more and more popular each year.

3. A pear shape diamond ring looks very classy, especially when paired with a well-designed and crafted setting and band.

4. A pear shape diamond has a lot of sparkle. Although slightly less than a round brilliant diamond, the effect is spread across a surface that is around 8% larger than a round diamond. This makes for a stunning visual display, especially when the centre stone is surrounded with a diamond halo or an eternity-style row of diamonds along the precious metal band.

5. A pear-shaped diamond will never look cheap; the larger size and brilliant visual display ensure that!

Cons of a pear shape diamond:

1. Some people find it difficult to get used to wearing a pear shape diamond. Pear shape diamonds are the Marmite of the jewellery world! We would suggest not buying a pear shape diamond engagement ring as a surprise! If she likes pear shape diamonds, she will love them!

2. It is harder to cut a pear shape diamond than a round one due to the asymmetrical shape of the pear.

3. Beautiful pear shape diamonds are rarer than round diamonds – if you see a pear shape diamond ring that you like – don’t hang around – just buy it!

4. Pear shape diamonds show more colour than round diamonds, especially at the tip. The best advice here is not to economise on the colour grade. Choose a colour grade of G or better to be sure of getting a diamond that looks pure and evenly colourless across the entire diamond.

Why Should I Choose A Pear Shape Diamond?

Diamond is an important stone that comes from Earth. Diamond is a beautiful gemstone. Pear-shaped diamonds have a great look. If you want to buy the best quality diamond, you need to know how to select the right one.

Pear shape diamonds are popular among women. The reason for this is simple. Women like to wear jewellery with the perfect size and shape. However, most women are afraid to get a large diamond because they don't want to spend so much money. A pear shape diamond gives women the opportunity to have a diamond that looks large, extravagant even, but without spending a fortune,

If you're looking for a good deal on a diamond engagement ring, then you should consider buying a pear shape diamond. You can find these gems at affordable prices; you'll be able to save a lot of money compared to a similarly sized round brilliant diamond.

How To Care For Your Pear Shaped Engagement Ring

The first way to care for your pear shape diamond comes before you even buy it!

Although diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance, it can still be damaged by impact. A diamond can be chipped or cracked. A diamond with a point, such as a pear or marquise, is more vulnerable to this kind of damage than a round or cushion shaped gemstone.

The best way to protect your diamond from damage is to ensure that the pointed part of the diamond is protected using a claw setting that protects the pointed part of the diamond. When done well, this is almost invisible but will reassure you that the diamond is safe from most knocks and impacts.

Next, take the diamond for professional cleaning and maintenance every couple of years. When it is done, the ring will be cleaned and returned to ‘as new’ condition, full of sparkle and brilliance. At the same time, any minor repairs to the settings, such as loose claws, can be repaired before the diamond gets lost due to faulty settings. If the band has been slightly bent in wear, this too can be corrected.

Your ring can be cleaned in warm water with a tiny drop of washing-up liquid. Use a bowl, never over the sink! An old toothbrush can be used to lightly agitate away any dirt deposits under and between the precious stones. Then, rinse the ring in cold water, again in a bowl, not under running water.

Place the ring on a sheet of kitchen paper and allow it to dry naturally. Done very few weeks, your engagement ring will retain its sparkle and shine until it is time for a professional clean.

If you are going to do manual labour in the garden or your daily work or participate in active sports, take off your ring and keep it safe.
